Victims of Financial Abuse come from all walks of life and live in every neighborhood within our region. They have been taken advantage of by unscrupulous lenders, who rob them of what few resources they have. From stealing home equity, charging excessive fees that result in high-cost loans, to payday lending schemes, our residents, unknowingly and unwillingly fall prey. The DON'T BORROW TROUBLE~Northern California campaign is a public awareness initiative designed to educate consumer about the dangers of financial abuse. The campaign was brought to the Sacramento region by a group of non-profit, government, business, and financial institution representatives who were seeing too many people fall prey to unscrupulous lending practices. The Campaign seeks to educate families and individuals about predatory lending, and other fringe banking services such as payday lenders, check cashing outlets, rent-to-own store, and tax refund anticipation loans. The campaign also discusses ways to prevent becoming a victim of identity theft and provides information about available community resources. |
